In a wide range of roles, from classical to futuristic, he has shown himself a consummate actor. But Charlton Heston has always been more than a star.

Although he is a private man, he has often appeared to be a very public one, willing to speak up on issues he believes in–however controversial they may be. Here, in his own words, is Heston’s life as well as highlights of a career that resulted in over 60 motion pictures. The DVD includes scenes from The Greatest Show On Earth, The Ten Commandments, The Big Country, Ben-Hur, Will Penny, Soylent Green, and Planet of the Apes.

Reviews

“Charlton Heston: For All Seasons serves as a gentle tribute rather than a comprehensive or probing documentary about the life and career of a controversial screen star. The quality of the DVD transfer is subpar (with occasional rolling / flickering). General audiences may find it fitting as a cursory introduction to this unconventional movie hero…” – Educational Media Reviews Online

“…For All Seasons does provide a brisk, if hardly thorough, overview of Heston’s life and career in just over 45 minutes. Through interviews with co-stars like Peck and Carroll Baker, as well as Heston’s own wife and daughter and assorted commentators, Feldman and Winter run through Heston’s life from his childhood in rural Michigan to his late-life projects and activism. Heston himself is interviewed and provides only occasional commentary on his films and philosophies, proving himself to be as amicable and warm a speaker as one would expect from the man who was Moses.

For All Seasons is made for casual viewing on cable on a Sunday afternoon; this is a fine introduction for casual fans or those intrigued by Heston’s life in the wake of his passing, but anyone expecting anything more in-depth will have to look elsewhere.”- DVDVerdict.com

“This documentary video, part of The Hollywood Collection, features the life and work of actor and political conservative Charlton Heston. After growing up in a rural part of Michigan, Heston migrated to the urban landscape of Chicago to attend a high school for the dramatic arts. He attended Northwestern University, where his talent and passion for acting increased with his participation in school theater productions. Then he moved onto the Broadway stage and eventually to the movie soundstages in Hollywood. Heston, known best for his epic film roles as such biblical characters as Moses in Cecil B. De Mille’s The Ten Commandments and as the title character in William Wyler’s Oscar-winning production of Ben-Hur, speaks openly in this video about his career, family, and his politics. This video also shows movie footage, including a rare 1942 student film of a young Heston. There are also interviews with family, co-workers, and friends, including Gregory Peck.” ~ Cecilia Cygnar, All Movie Guide
