Executive Production

Our Executive Production Agreement is designed for producers developing blue-chip factual entertainment television specials or series — programming that can work for primetime audiences, in multiple international markets.

Typically, producers with a financing partner already on board must still raise up to 50% of their budgets, or more, from other sources.  This is done with either a “co-production” or a “pre-sale.” Producers engage us to arrange such co-production or pre-sale financing from our clients and partners, whether broadcasters or major distributors. Often our international production partners from major markets can access production funding from broadcasters in their own territories (UK, France, Germany, Japan, Australia, Canada).

International producers seeking production finance from the United States should know that Janson Media is an “approved producer” for a number of American broadcasters, such as National Geographic Channel, Discovery Networks, PBS, and others. We have produced for them in the past, and continue to do so on a selective basis. For the right projects designed to meet the needs of these broadcasters, we will consider an engagement as an Executive Producer.

Finally, for projects without any production financing yet attached, we can also present projects “in development” to either our domestic or international clients.

When it comes to documentary television (aka factual entertainment), we know the players both in the U.S. and international markets, whether they are broadcasters, major distributors, or large production companies.  We know what they are buying, what they are producing and what is working for them in terms of demos, ratings, and audiences. We know the development executives from the acquisition executives.  And the names are always changing.

Our fees include a retainer for services as well as a percentage of financing raised. A typical engagement calls for us to receive a retainer of $10,000 per quarter (3 months is our minimum engagement) vs. 12.5% of finance raised. For example, for if we succeeded in raising $200,000 in three months, we would receive a total  fee of $25,o00.  When we are successful in raising at least 25% of project financing we take an EP (Executive Producer) credit.
