Known for its wild game safari and tribal experiences, this five-hour, High-Definition series captures the uniqueness of this East African country. Spectacular footage and breathtaking scenes bring to life the rich culture and heritage of this remarkable country.

Episode 101: Arusha & Lake Manyara: Arusha National Park is considered to be a gem in Tanzania’s “Northern Safari Circuit.” It is just 40 minutes from the safari gateway town of Arusha, Tanzania’s second-largest city. It is also famous for its local street markets there.

Episode 102: Tarangire National Park: Tarangire National Park lies to the south of the large, open grass plaines of southern Maasailand and is the best-kept secret on the “Northern Safari Circuit,” boasting the largest population of Elephants anywhere in Tanzania. Its sparse vegetation, strewn with Baobab and Acacia trees, makes it an incredible location. Baobab trees are one of the world’s oldest trees and can survive up to 3,000 years.

Episode 103: Ngorongoro: The Ngorongro Crater and Conservation Area is a world heritage site, which includes an entire ecysystem within the crater walls. Referred to by many as the 8th Wonder of the World and “Eden of Africa,” the crater floor covers over 100 square miles and is 2,000 feet deep. The Ngorongoro Conservation Area is a vast piece of real estate, covering over 3,200 square miles with the crater.

Episode 104: Southern Serengeti: The Serengeti National Park/ Ngorongoro Conservation Area is arguably the most impressive wildlife sanctuary in the world. The Serengeti Plain is a vast expanse of east African bush with over 11,500 square miles, and was known as “Maasailand-” named by early explorers for the people who lived in remarkable harmony with the wild animals there. The endless plains of east Africa are the setting for the universe’s greatest wildlife spectacle.

Episode 105: Maasailand Epilogue: The program features all the things that were too good for the cutting room floor. The first four programs ran out of time for their inclusion, so here is a show from many of the parks with lots of stories from Guide, Stanford Milinga.

Discoveries…Africa—Tanzania: Tarangire National Park : The latest entry in Jim and Kelly Watt’s high-def filmed Discoveries…Africa—Tanzania series takes viewers inside the Tarangire National Park for picaresque up-close views of lush scenery and abundant wildlife. Safari guide Stanford Milenga shares insightful observations on a number of topics, including cattle conflicts (the Maasai are said to believe all cattle belong to them and may graze on any land…although local farmers understandably disagree), long-lasting baobob trees (believed to live for thousands of years), elephant life (from bachelor groups training each other, to a look at the powerful muscles in their trunks), and the effects of increased human settlement on migration patterns. Colorful footage of animals—including cheetahs, “honeymooning” lions, the Hamerkop bird, the crown crane, ostriches, and buffalo—is combined with visits to various sites such as the Kikoti Lodge (a vacation spot with cabins on stilts so animals can wander underneath), and a private school for tour guide training (which Milenga attended). A solid addition to a fine armchair travelogue series, this is recommended. Video Librarian
