This documentary is the fascinating story of two divers and their unique relationship to the sea. Their goal – dive deeper than anyone has ever gone before on a single breath of air.For more than 10 years, world champion freedivers Pipin Ferreras and Umberto Pelizzari have been vying for world records. The 480 foot mark has already been passed but their journey into the deep continues. Their passion is carried by a desire to overtake the other and push their own physical limits to the extreme. Their love of the sea without compromise is what unites these two rivals. However, it is their different personalities and opposing diving philosophies that separate them. Pipin is the “No Limits” man who wants to go deeper and deeper. Umberto, the purist, seeks harmony in the ocean’s depth.

Ocean Men: Extreme Dive takes you into the world of these two awe-inspiring freedivers through the use of breathtaking underwater photography, enchanting music, and insightful animation. Marvelous 3D-graphics escort you on a journey through the divers’ bodies and show the original diving reflex, which is carried by sea mammals and humans alike. Ultimately, the movie allows a glimpse into the souls of these extraordinary men with the hope of transferring the magic of freediving directly to the audience.

Living legend Jacques Mayol – the father of freediving – introduces us to today’s freediving heroes, Cuban-born Pipin Ferreras and Italian-born Umberto Pelizzari. Good friends in the beginning, the competition quickly turned the divers into bitter rivals. Competition between the two began in 1990 when Umberto pushed his rival from the throne by reaching a depth of 195 feet in the “Constant Weight” discipline. The Italian surpassed world champion Pipin by 9 feet and, thereby, stepped into the limelight of apnea sports. The sport has never been the same since.

Through fitness training and mental preparations like yoga and meditation, both achieve perfect harmony with the sea. Umberto Pelizzari prefers the “Constant Weight” discipline and Pipin Ferreras the ride on a “No Limits” sled. Both divers attempt new freediving records using very different means to reach their goal. The audience witnesses each diver strive to reach his personal best. Yet, in the end, as both divers point out, the most rewarding accomplishment is not the record, but the journey itself.

On the big screen we accompany the two champions on their dives at the most exciting locations of the oceans, as they prepare their bodies and minds for a depth of more than 450 feet. The breathtaking pictures in large format and the peaceful music convey to the audience the feeling of diving into the deep blue world of danger and stunning beauty.
