<p>Often overlooked by medical experts, the WAY we use our body often creates disease. Why do couch potatoes and competitive athletes suffer from the same chronic ailments, disease, and pain?  It&#8217;s because, like most of us, neither group is using their body in the way it was mechanically designed to be used!</p>
<p>Analyzing human movement (biomechanics) used to be for increasing athletic performance until biomechanical scientist Katy Bowman decided to apply those same principles to the every-day use of the human machine for the purpose of reducing common disease.</p>

<p><strong>Episode Descriptions</strong></p>
<p><strong>Episode 101: When Your Doctor Prescribes Exercise</strong> &#8211; When your doctor recommends exercise,they are usually not referring to high-impact exercise, intense bouts, or even athletics. Here are a handful of simple exercises for opening the key joints of the hips, shoulders and spine, to improve full-body health issues like hypertension and raising good cholesterol.  A great place to get started!</p>
<p><strong>Episode 102: When You Hurt All Over</strong> – What’s one to do when you hurt all over but your doctor tells you that you need to exercise? These gentle stretching exercises will improve the flow of blood and lymph, even to the extremities, reduce internal pressures, raise immunity, and improve muscle strength.</p>
<p><strong>Episode 103: Fix Your Feet</strong> &#8211; Most foot pain is entirely preventable and reversible through a thoughtfully designed exercise routine. Fallen arches, inflamed fascia, and over- tight foot muscles are all created through movement habits, and can quickly improve when those habits are corrected.</p>
<p><strong>Episode 104: Knees and Hips</strong> &#8211; While the causes of knee and hip problems are as varied as individual sufferers, the mechanics of these joints are the same in everyone. These exercises stretch and strengthen the muscles most involved in preserving the health and mobility of these important joints. The exercises are adaptable even if you’ve had a joint replacement. They are challenging &#8212; and necessary&#8211; for runners and other athletes who suffer from knee or hip problems.</p>
<p><strong>Episode 105: Below the Belt For Men</strong> &#8211; It is a well-hidden fact that pelvic floor disorders (PFD) are just as common among men and women, especially when you add in prostate conditions and sexual dysfunction. You’ll learn how misalignment decreases the strength of the muscles that hold the weight of the organs off of the prostate, and how a handful of specifically chosen exercises will begin to bring the body back into alignment and increase blood flow to extremities in this area.</p>
<p><strong>Episode 106: Down There For Women</strong> – More than 80 percent of women will suffer pelvic floor disorders in their lifetime, yet most women have no idea that pelvic alignment is essential for proper pelvic floor function.  Katy shows an a easy-to-follow protocol for stretching and strengthening the muscles that keep the pelvis aligned, allowing the pelvic floor to operate less like a hammock and more like a trampoline.</p>
<p><strong>Episode 107: When You Can’t Breathe</strong> &#8211; You were taught to swim, how to ride a bike, and even how to walk, though you probably don’t remember it. Breathing is comprised of coordinated muscle movements just like all of these, but chances are nobody has ever shown how to do it correctly. Bowman explains the mechanics of optimal breathing, and the exercises that will train the muscles to increase oxygen intake!</p>
<p><strong>Episode 108:  Easy Rx&#8230;ercise for Diabetics</strong> &#8211; Exercise prescription needs to be specific when dealing with diabetes.  Intense programs can cause rapid changes in blood sugar that can stress the adrenal glands and slow metabolism.  Easy Rx&#8230;ercise for Diabetics is designed to increase basal metabolic rate (metabolism) and minimize stress and adrenaline production. It offers a protocol that includes a handful of gentle exercises to improve circulation in the feet, lower legs and mid-section, specifically to meet the needs of the diabetic population.</p>
<p><strong>Episode 109:  My Hands Hurt: From Elbows to Fingers</strong> &#8211; With all the typing, driving and computer work done on a daily basis, it’s no wonder that the numerous muscles, bones, nerves and attachments from the elbows on down, often start to complain.  Targeting all the tissues that supply the hands with health and mobility, Bowman guides you through a series of simple but profound exercises to align and unwind the neck, shoulders, elbows and hands.</p>
<p><strong>Episode 110: Get Your Balance Back</strong>- To lose one’s sense of balance is to lose one’s  independence. Bowman defines balance as “the ability to stand unsupported on one  foot,” because that’s the skill needed to walk safely and confidently. This easy-to- follow program stretches and strengthens the muscles necessary for balance, and for independent living.</p>
<p><strong>Episode 111: Biomechanics for Strong Bones</strong> &#8211; With so much misunderstanding of the term “weight-bearing,”very few women are getting the correct exercises to align their skeleton correctly. This easy-to-follow program maximizes bone-loading to create bone-building signals at the areas commonly affected by bone loss: wrists, ribs, vertebrae, and hips.</p>
<p><strong>Episode 112: Biomechanics for Bad Backs</strong> &#8211; So many people suffer from chronic backaches, but where do they come from?  Here you’ll come to understand the origin of the back pain, and get a simple and deeper understanding on how to re-educate the body on proper movement and alignment. These gentle exercises work to free up the spine and can even be done while traveling on the road.</p>
<p><strong>Episode 113: From the Shoulders Up</strong> &#8211; Chronic headaches, foggy brain, and even pressure behind the eyes can result from long hours at the computer and a lack of mobility in the neck and shoulders.  This is a basic exercise prescription for improving circulation to the neck and head, as well as tips for better typing and driving ergonomics.</p>
<p><strong>Episode 114: Smart Digestion</strong> &#8211; While digestive disorders like IBS and acid reflux are often associated with nutritional choices, often times it is the position of structures like the swallowing tube, the over-compression of the abdomen associated with slouchy posture, and body position when eating! You’ll learn five exercises that maximize body efficiency for optimal digestion.</p>

<p><span id="more-3825"></span>Who was Samuel Hahnemann and what was he thinking when he developed a system of medicine still in practice after 200 years? The German physician and chemist was a contemporary of Mozart. He studied to become a doctor but quickly became disillusioned with the conventional practice of medicine. Like popular new-age health practitioners today, Hahnemann advocated the healing power of healthful foods and exercise. But when patients came to him with ailments, he elected not to cure their symptoms of disease, but rather to treat the whole person with specialized, minute doses of natural substances intended to increase the body&#8217;s own inherent defenses. Hahnemman developed these medications, commonly called &#8220;remedies,&#8221; during a lifetime of &#8220;provings&#8221; and with seemingly miraculous results: during the deadly 1832 cholera epidemic that swept through Europe, homeopaths claimed a 97% cure rate.</p>
<p>As Hahnemann&#8217;s body of knowledge increased, so did his following, despite the fact that his detractors (many of whom practiced in the traditional medical arts) ridiculed his work, calling it nonsense. Within a short number of years, the practice of Homeopathy spread throughout Europe, the United States, India and many other countries. Today, homeopathic practitioners, physicians and veterinarians continue to successfully treat patients for a wide range of physical and mental illnesses, using ideas and remedies developed and published by Samuel Hahnemann in his Materia Medica. But the processes by which these minute doses of inexpensive, natural substances are able to affect cure remains, for many, a mystery</p>

As beautiful on the inside as she is on the outside, Colleen brings a delicate wisdom to the yoga class experience. Together, they take their live and home audience through a thorough experience of classic yoga theory, philosophies and practice. They teach a variety of poses, and explain the health benefits of each pose.</p>
<p>The special was taped in front of an audience ranging from complete yoga novices to experienced students, from young to old (including a 90-year-old participant); some of the audience participates on mats, while some are seated. Regardless, everyone becomes engaged in the program, while Rodney and Colleen walk among the members, correcting where needed.</p>
<p>The program provides definitions of yoga, what it is and what it isn&#8217;t, and introduces the most important and basic pose of all: mountain, which all yoga poses revolve around. The standing poses teach grounding and centering, and they are rejuvenating as well. As Colleen explains, the sun salutations can become your daily caffeine replacement!</p>
<p>Rodney then focuses on the concept of balance. As he explains, balance is a constant process. He teaches cobbler, tree pose, and cobra &#8212; and how to open your heart, one of the greatest benefits of a yoga practice.</p>
<p>In the final portion of the program, Rodney and Colleen focus on the key concept of achieving alert relaxation, the central precept of yoga. Rodney leads the audience through a truly remarkable full-body meditation, and Colleen presents a breathing process that can change your body chemistry and transform your life. The conclusion is a moving summation of the &#8220;goal&#8221; of the yoga experience. This program appeals to anyone who has ever wondered: &#8220;what&#8217;s all the fuss about yoga?&#8221; as well as devoted practitioners and those who have followed Rodney&#8217;s teachings over the past 25 years.</p>
