Home Use Only refers specifically to personal use or with friends or family in the home.  A Public Performance, on the other hand, is any performance which occurs outside of the home, or at any place where people are gathered who are not family members, such as in a school, library, business or group meeting.  The only time DVDs licensed for “Home Use Only” may legally be used in a group setting but without a public performance license, is a use permitted under the “face-to-face” teaching exemption (Section 110 (1)) of the U.S. Copyright Law (typically, teachers using a DVD in a classroom setting). In all other cases, Public Performance Rights must be licensed.

A Public Performance Rights License confers the right to exhibit a film to an audience in a public setting where the projector and audience are in the same room (aka a non-theatrical screening), but it does not allow the licensee to charge an admission fee to such screenings. It also does not confer the right to show the film on television or online, nor does it allow the customer the right to sublicense the film, or to sublicense or duplicate it in any way. Such a license allows the licensee to include the film in its library, and make it available to students, faculty, and staff members for educational, research or other non-commercial purposes.

We accept purchase orders for Public Performance Rights from colleges, universities, public libraries, hospitals, corporations, grassroots and community groups and other non-profits.  Our Public Performance Rights are licensed for the life of the DVD.  A Public Performance License document is included with our invoice in such cases. The license is activated upon acceptance and payment of the invoice.  To issue a purchase order please visit our Ordering Information page, or contact us using the form below.

Please note that we will offer reduced pricing to community and grassroots groups and nonprofits who cannot afford our listed PPR prices. If our prices are out of reach of your budget, please contact us to explain your situation and we will try to accommodate your needs.
