Janson Media today announced the release to worldwide television, DVD/video, and VOD markets of The Last Ridge: The Uphill Battles of the 10th Mountain Division. The compelling one-hour documentary, narrated by National Public Radio’s Scott Simon, recounts the remarkable history of the 10th Mountain Division soldiers, beginning with its earliest days as a legendary WWII alpine fighting force. Their extraordinary efforts turned the tide for the Allies in Italy, revolutionized winter mountain warfare abroad, and transformed winter sports at home – blazing a path of honor for generations to come.More than 60 years ago, the 10th Mountain Division did the impossible in the mountains of Italy, scaling a 2000 foot cliff on a cold winter night to knock the Germans from their impenetrable perch. With the Germans entrenched in Italy’s heavily fortified mountaintops, the Allied advance was effectively blocked. Other Allied division had tried and failed to capture this critical high ground, losing 15,000 soldiers in the process. Finally, U.S. Army brass called up the 10th Mountain Division, and the rest is history.
The Last Ridge: The Uphill Battles of the 10th Mountain Division takes an active history approach to breakthrough to younger viewers, weaving together re-creations, eyewitness accounts, 3-D animation, Allied and captured German archival footage and newly discovered letters. The 10th Mountain story begins during backbreaking training. The Last Ridge brings the extraordinary 10th Mountain legacy to life, from the uphill battles they faced during World War II, to the remote corners of troubled Afghanistan where they patrol today, as the most deployed military division in the U.S. Army. Produced by 10th Mountain descendant Abbie Kealy, the program was filmed extensively in Colorado, Italy, Afghanistan and Yugoslavia, with insights from over one hundred 10th Mountain soldiers.
The Last Ridge: The Uphill Battles of the 10th Mountain Division (1 x 60′) was produced in 2007 and is now available to international television, DVD/video, and VOD markets exclusively through Janson Media.
