Janson Media announced today that it has licensed the program HMS Titanic: Design Failure, U-Boat, or Iceberg from the series, World’s Greatest Mysteries (67 x 30′) to RAI for free TV broadcast in Italy, Vatican City, San Marino, Capodistria and Monaco. The series, which investigates puzzling moments in history like the Princess Diana tragedy and the JFK asassination. was produced by Grizzy Adams Productions.

According to all reports, during her maiden voyage on the night of April 14th, 1912, the HMS Titanic struck an iceberg, and sank into the North Atlantic two hours and forty minutes later. At the time, the Titanic was the largest passenger steamship in the world.  The total death toll was 1,517, making it one of the worst peacetime maritime disasters in history and by far the most infamous. The Titanic used some of the most advanced technology available at the time and was popularly believed to be unsinkable. Legend holds that nearly $300 million worth of diamonds still rest in the ship’s holds. A daring attempt to retrieve lost treasures only inspired even greater uncertainty about the fate of the Titanic. The World’s Greatest Mysteries episode HMS Titanic: Design Failure, U-Boat, or Iceberg? questions whether a collision with an iceberg really was the cause for the tragedy of the mighty ocean liner. It examines whether design defects or structural problems sealed the Titanic’s fate before it ever left port. Another possibility for sinking the unsinkable is the suggestion that a German U-boat was lurking in the dark waters of the North Atlantic that night. Iceberg, design, or a torpedo . . . the fate of the Titanic remains a mystery nearly a century later.
