Janson Launches Russian Drama Series Gogol on Amazon Prime Video

Janson Media today announced the release of the historical drama series, Gogol, on Amazon Prime Video in the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom. The series was co-produced by TV3 and Sreda of Russia. Janson signed the deal with Moscow-based film distribution company Central Partnership (a division of Gazprom-Media Holding).

Gogol, a limited television series of eight one-hour episodes, is an historical adventure detective story inspired by the life and novels of the famous 19th century writer Nikolai Gogol. Gogol was one of the leading figures the natural school of Russian literary realism, and the author of the classic novel, Taras Bulba. The series stars Alexander Petrov (T-34, Ice) and Oleg Menshikov (Attraction). In Russia, Gogol premiered on TV3.

Working with Janson Media to "place Gogol on Amazon Prime Video proves once again that we are moving in the right direction in terms of international sales. One of our main goals is to raise awareness about high quality theatrical and television content produced in Russia, and we have been reaching this goal successfully," said Vadim Vereschagin, CEO of Central Partnership.

Evgeniy Nikishov, producer, and TV3's General Producer, said, "It’s rewarding to see the positive response for our content in the world. Last year our series An Ordinary Woman became the first Russian project to be in competition of Series Mania in France, and its female lead Anya Mikhalkova took the best female performance award."

"We are grateful that both film industry professionals and end-consumers at the end of the day find our content appealing, said Valeriy Fedorovich, producer, and TV3's CEO. "Placing Gogol on one of the leading world online services is another big step for TV3's expansion into the global market."

"We have worked with many TV series and films for distribution across Amazon Prime Video, but Gogol is by far the most exciting for us to date," said Jesse Janson, EVP of Acquisitions for Janson Media. "We are extremely proud to bring this powerful series to the English-speaking markets. We feel that Amazon Prime Video will be the optimal platform to showcase the title properly."

The Amazon Prime Video release will be the first digital run of the Gogol television series in a foreign language, however, the Gogol project as a whole is already well-known to the international audience. Gogol won the People’s Choice Award at Biografilm Festival (Italy) and the prize for Outstanding Cinematography at the Accolade Global Film Competition Festival (USA). Hollywood Director John Woo selected Gogol as the Best Foreign TV Series at The Indie Gathering International Film Festival (USA). The composer of the project Ryan Otter won a prestigious international music award for Gogol at the Global Music Awards (USA). Also, the Gogol trilogy of feature films has been released in theaters in Germany, the UK, Austria, Belgium, Switzerland, Cyprus and UAE.
