Russia's Star Media Expands Distribution Deal with Janson

Janson Media today announced that it has expanded its digital distribution agreement with Star Media, one of Russia's leading production companies. The company and will bring yet another large package of primetime-quality Star Media films and drama series to Amazon Prime Video platforms in the United States, Canada, and other English-speaking territories worldwide.

“The quality of content produced in Russia is increasing rapidly, and there is a large demand for Russian-produced content across Amazon Prime Video, which is confirmed by the great success of the Star Media titles," said Jesse Janson, Janson's Executive VP for Acquisitions & Development. "Star Media projects now available on the platform cover a variety of genres with a strong focus on historical and wartime dramas."

An initial package of 25 titles from Star Media was launched on Amazon Prime Video in 2017, and met with immediate success. Now, the package of Star Media projects available to global subscribers of Amazon Prime Video includes 75 films and television series. In addition to Canada and the United States, Star Media content is also available in the United Kingdom, Ireland, Finland, Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Iceland, South Africa, Australia, New Zealand and India.

“We receive a lot of positive feedback from English-speaking viewers of Amazon who are not at all discouraged by the fact that the films are produced and presented in Russian and have only English subtitles," explained Vlad Ryashin, General Producer of Star Media. "In addition to English, we’re planning to launch Spanish language content on the platform very soon.”

"Traditional broadcasters in the United States continue to shy away from foreign-language subtitled content," said Janson. "This creates a great opportunity for on-demand streaming, where such projects discover their audiences.”

Star Media titles now available on Amazon Prime Video include such audience favorites as Detective Anna, Freud's Method, The Romanovs, Once Upon a Time in Odessa, Night Swallows, Ancestral Land, The Dawns Here Are Quiet, and Lermontov, among others. Detective Anna was included in a drama series critic’s list of the best mystery shows available on the platform.
